Diocesan Marriage Renewal

The Diocese of St. Augustine Marriage Renewal Program is designed to give married couples the opportunity to renew and revitalize marriages.  It's not a retreat, nor a marriage clinic, nor group sensitivity. It's a unique approach aimed at revitalizing Christian Marriage.  This is a time for you and your spouse to be alone together. This is a time to rediscover each other and together focus on your relationship for an entire weekend. Every marriage deserves that kind of attention!

Who attends?

Any married couple who desires a richer, fuller life together. A marriage can never be too good. Marriage Renewal is designed to deepen and enrich the joys a couple shares together, whether they have been married for only a short time or many years. Marriage Renewal also provides support and encouragement to priests and religious who are dedicated to their vocation in life.

Do you have to be Catholic?

The weekend is Catholic in expression but all faiths are welcomed and will feel right at home, because we are about renewing and revitalizing marriages not about converting others to our faith.

What happens at a Marriage Renewal Weekend?

You will find a relaxing atmosphere to work on renewing and revitalizing your marriage.  A series of presentations and exercises throughout the weekend are given by 3 couples and a Catholic priest.  These are short, crisp presentations to provide you with concepts that will form "stepping stones" for your marriage and exercises to give you, as a couple, time to experience one another in a new dynamic way.  You will get away from your cares, work, long hours of juggled schedules that impede and take the focus away from you as a couple.  You will have time to get back in touch with one another and discover the beauty that lies within each of you and your relationships and your relationship with God, the Church and the world.  The weekend starts at 8:00 PM on Friday night and runs until about 5:00 PM Sunday.

Does the weekend respect the couple's privacy?

Yes. The weekend is oriented strictly to each individual couple. You concentrate on your spouse to such an extent that you are hardly aware of the other couples present. The presentations are given to the group as a whole. After each presentation the husband and wife have time in the privacy of their room for their own personal discussion.

How does a Renewal Weekend enhance a marriage?

The renewal weekend permits each couple time to explore important areas of their relationship in a spirit of love and understanding. Your love will be vibrant and your communication will be fine tuned.

When and where are the weekends held?

Marriage Renewal weekends are held at the Marywood Retreat Center in Switzerland, FL.  It is a retreat facility with bedrooms that have their own private baths.  Three meals are provided on Saturday.  Breakfast and lunch are provided on Sunday.

What does a Marriage Renewal Weekend cost?

A $35 non-refundable registration fee confirms your food and lodging. At the end of the weekend each couple is given a blank envelope and asked to make a donation. No one is ever refused the opportunity to make a weekend because of a lack of funds.  For more information or to register for a Marriage Renewal Weekend, please contact John and Tina Morrissey at (904) 744-6843.
